Getting bendy

Having a bad back and wanting to train hard in Aikido is not a good combination. I have decided therefore to do something else for a while in the hope of strengthening my back. To that end I have joined a Yoga group here in Tucson. http://www.yogaoasis.com/ They really are friendly people. It's almost as if all that stuff that they say about yoga relaxing you and making you a more compassionate, happy and open person is true... well I could certainly use a push in that direction. They have very good teachers (which is really the most important thing.) And bizarrely I have felt that my posture is straighter after just two sessions.

You pervert! We all know why you are there!

What do you do think when they start getting esoteric?

Firstly, I am there for mostly physical reasons... by which I mean training not perversion.

It varie4s. I've only been to 3 classes so far and each teacher has been different. The two who were clearly more experienced and further on only talked in very grounded ways about how practicing yoga can have real world changes on behaviour and attitude. The first guy was very good and was encouraging people to think and answer questions. He behaved rather like a guru, gentle questions and encouragement. Really good teacher.

The one who was less good was a bit more a new-age flake. When I asked her the meaning of the Sanskrit chant she had encouraged everyone to join, she didn't know!

As in all thing and every field of human behaviour my friend there those who mouth the words, those who understand them and rarest of all those who can give rise to that understanding in others.
